FOR FEDERAL/PROVINCIAL POLICY MAKERS & ABORIGINAL LEADERS

February 22, 2005
GM building, Room 407, Concordia University, Montreal
Facilitated by Dr. Benjamin Levin

Moving Forward provided senior education and aboriginal leaders and policy makers an opportunity to formulate strategies for improving success rates for Canada's aboriginal students. Drawing on the research base and diverse knowledge and perspectives, participants examined systemic barriers to progress, promising models and solutions, and jointly developed an action plan for moving forward.

Through focussed small working groups and plenary dialogue facilitated by Dr. Ben Levin, participants developed a roadmap for improving aboriginal education in Canada.

Topics addressed included:
» Providing Critical Supports for Successful Learning
» Ensuring Supply, Training and Retention of Quality Teachers
» Creating a Culture of Learning

Participants were asked to review the pre-reading materials under the categories above in advance and invited to suggest links to further relevant research.
