FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How will our project be evaluated?
The results of your improvement project must be measurable and the appropriate indicators and tools selected in advance to evaluate progress. Schools are encouraged to build on existing school achievement benchmarks and databases, and to provide pre-measures, regular interim and post-measures to document gains over the term of the project. The use of multiple data sources and measures is encouraged. Tools for evaluating your progress might include:
Provincial Foundation Skills Assessments
Standardized assessments administered by the District
Tests from testing services
Provincial exams
Surveys of satisfaction
Attendance records
Hours of parent volunteerism
Other measures relevant to the goals of the project

What happens after I have submitted my initial application?
Applications will be reviewed by the SIGP committee and winning school applications will receive a $5000 planning grant to research the best solutions, strategies and resources, and develop a detailed plan and budget which must be approved by all school partner groups. These must be re-submitted to the SIGP committee for evaluation.

Winners of this round will then be awarded implementation grants of $9000 for Year 1, $9000 for Year 2 and $2000 upon submission of a final report.

What type of reporting is required from schools who are awarded implementation grants?
Each school will be required to submit an Interim Progress report in June of Year 1 and a Final Report in June of Year 2. Reporting formats will be provided. An external researcher will meet with the schools to confirm the reports with an independent evaluation of the evidence gathered. The results of your school project will be shared with other Canadian schools in a final published report.

What if we need more money for our project?
Schools are encouraged to partner with other organizations to add additional project funding for more comprehensive projects. However, accounting integrity for each separate funding source must be maintained.

How much grant money is available?
A total of $25,000 is available to each winning school to implement a new two-year improvement project. This is allocated as follows:
$5,000 for research and planning
$9,000 for Year 1 implementation
$9,000 for Year 2 implementation
$2,000 for submission of final report outlining results of the initiative
